Celebrating our 66th release, Fading Ways is happy to introduce you to one of Portugal's up-and-coming revelations. The country is presently a hotbed of English-language musical talent, with several artists (Mazgani being first rank in this "new generation" of Portuguese singers) hoping to break out onto the international scene - see X-Wife, Rita Redshoes, The Legendary Tigerman, and the fabulous Dead Combo for examples. Known internationally for its Fado (aka Portuguese Blues), Fading Ways founder Neil Leyton feels that it is about time it becomes known for its living stars rather than the long-deceased Amalia. And so, without further ado about Portugal:

Mazgani CD

Shahryar Mazgani counts Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Nick Cave as some of his influences and started singing fairly late in his 30-some years (similarly to Cohen, actually). He has recorded a very well received debut album, Song of the new Heart, prior to pursuing a rawer sound for the follow-up EP Tell the People: through famed radio DJ Henrique Amaro, he was introduced to Dead Combo's Pedro Goncalves, who produced the Tell the People EP and also the second album, to be released in 2010. Thus, "Tell the People" was released in Portugal in June via OptimusDiscos (free downloads at www.optimusdiscos.com ) and Fading Ways has now re-packaged the EP along with five tracks from the debut album and an unreleased demo for Mazgani's first international release.

"Ladies and Gentlemen introducing Mazgani" will thus be out via FW Finland, distributed via Playground for Finland and Scandinavia, Sonic RendezVous in the BeNeLux, and later on Scratch Distribution for Canada.
